Devlog 1 - Pitching and Prototyping

Hello again!

This devlog marks the official start of our journey as this week we were able to pitch our project during class.

A general meeting was arranged with all the people involved and our team agreed on what we wanted to make and are excited to start production.

--------

Cosmic Cat-Astrophy: A Repairman's Odyssey is a co-op, space, adventure & puzzle game. Our players, two alien satellite repairmen, are called into work to fix a broken-down satellite on a faraway planet.

After exiting their ship and attaching a cable between them and the spaceship, per company protocol, our players are surprised by the ship suddenly gaining speed and flying off into the distance, snapping their connection to the ship, leaving them stranded in space with only the cable that connects them. The culprit? Their onboard support cat Luna, who accidentally pressed the wrong button.

Now, they need to find a way back home while traversing deep space, all the while looking for their missing cat.

The development of our Game Design Document (GDD) has also started and we aim to finish it in 2 weeks.

There's not much we can show right now, but concept art made for the pitch and a small single-player prototype with different planets and gravitational fields were made. Here are some examples:

This week, I worked on the pitch, the presentation and the start of our GDD. I also developed the prototype following a great tutorial I found online about general movement and custom gravity in the Unity Engine. I feel optimistic about the future of this project as it has a lot of potential!

Miguel "Yoshi" Belbute
This week, I worked on the concept pitch and presentation, alongside my colleagues. I also started research on active ragdolls (taking games like Human: Fall Flat and Gang Beasts as inspiration) and studied how to implement them in the Unity Engine.

Carolina "Carol" Brás
During this past week, I dedicated my efforts to producing concept art (you can see some examples above), sketching ideas, and crafting the presentation slides. Additionally, I focused on working on the game design document, with particular attention given to the experience goals.

Alexandra "Alex" Pato
This week, I worked on developing the game pitch and rehearsing the presentation with the team. My main focus was the game's value and player experience upon visiting a planet, as well as translating the pitch document to a presentation format.
I also worked on immersive descriptions for the various planets' visuals and mechanics, along with first draft of the game design document.
